Thinking About Hiring A Wedding Content Creator? Here’s Everything to know

As we officially await the start of the 2024 wedding season, there are new services popping on the scene for couples to add to their wedding day.

Previously, we shared with you about the new trend of hiring a wedding content creator- you can read that here. Since this new service doesn’t seem to be slowing down, we spoke with Philly local, San who is one of the first to offer Wedding Content Creation in the area with her company Vivid Moments with San.

PAW:  So tell us… What exactly does a wedding content creator do?!

SAN: As a wedding content creator,  I capture all the candid, imperfectly perfect moments that happen throughout a couple’s special day. Think behind-the-scenes, in-between moments that don’t make it into the professional wedding photos or video, but hold a special place in the couple’s hearts. I work alongside their photographer and videographer as part of their media team to capture as many moments as I can on an iPhone. The best part? They’ll receive unlimited candid photos and videos the very next day. No chasing their family and friends to send their photos and videos, and no waiting weeks or months for professional edits.

What type of content do you create?

I capture raw photos and videos, but can create trendy TikToks or Instagram Reels for couples if they’re into that type of thing! I can also create short, 1 minute highlight videos of their wedding day if the couple prefers that over trendy videos.

How do you handle working alongside the photographer and videographer?

I always introduce myself to the photographer and videographer at the beginning, and let them know that I’ll follow right behind them or be off to the side to make sure I’m not getting in their shots. A seamless experience for the couple is a priority for me, so I see myself as part of the couple’s media team to document their day from another lens. All the photographers and videographers I’ve worked with so far have been friendly and also curious because it’s usually the first time they’ve worked with a wedding content creator!

What are some things couples should think about or consider when looking for a wedding content creator?

It’s important to understand the differences between a wedding content creator and a photographer, but especially a videographer. I document a couple’s day using different equipment, with a much shorter turnaround time (I deliver all content within 24 hours of the end of the wedding), and from a different perspective (think of me as a best friend or guest who is capturing everything more casually). I highly suggest learning these differences and determining your priorities when you think about the moments you’d like to look back on days, months, and years after your wedding.

Because wedding content creators are new to the wedding industry, it’s hard to gauge whether it would be worth it to hire one. As with every vendor, I suggest looking at examples of their work, asking detailed questions to understand what’s included in packages, and making sure your personalities jive since a WCC will be with you all day!

The last thing is a wedding content creator can be for EVERYONE, not just for those who are influencers with a large following or active on social media. Couples can keep all the memories to themselves, or choose to share with only their friends and family.

Whose phone do you use?

I capture all content using my iPhone, which is usually the latest Pro model of the iPhone. Currently, I use an iPhone 15 Pro on a camera stabilizer (DJI Osmo Mobile 6) to ensure smooth and stable footage. I also carry a portable light for areas with low lighting, 2 portable chargers, and a microfiber cloth to keep the lens clean and clear. I’m in the process of adding a tiny mic to my equipment for better audio quality (e.g., for vows, asking family/friends fun questions during cocktail hour, etc.).

While we refer to it as “wedding content creation”, San tells us that she offers content creation for any type of event.

I believe ALL wedding-related moments deserve to be captured, so I also cover proposals, engagement parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, cultural ceremonies, etc.

I also offer services for wedding vendors who would like more content for their social media, including capturing content on-site, editing videos for Instagram and TikTok, or even editing existing footage that vendors currently have but never have the time to edit. Wedding vendors work so hard to provide the best experience to couples, and I want to help them highlight their work in the best way possible!
